Magpie 001 • A bird on a branch with a camera
Where does one begin with a photo blog of mostly analogue subjects and found objects? As I have been trying to plant my feet firmly and wade in the mangrove swamp of my photo archive, I've had the chance to revisit (or re-acknowledge) some of the habits that keep creeping into my work. The habit demonstrated here is, appropriately, the Birds-Eye View – but the BEV of a bird sitting on a tree branch, not flying overhead.
I'm sure it's natural for photographers to seek out high vantage points from which to compose shots with a novel, less human POV. There is an adventurousness to seeing the world from up high and to looking at people through the eyes of a spy. The enjoyment of this detached perspective must be what underpins the distinct aesthetic pleasures of the BEV POV.
